You touched on something important: simple descriptions and thought-out structure create emergent story-heavy play. Instead of making each detail explicit and having a restrictive structure, it's open-ended. Simple. It is laid out as a basis, a skeleton which play then fleshes out.

THAT is what made old school DnD work. It was YOUR story when you went through the adventure; no two playings could come out the same.

Simple structure, simple rules, emergent story.
