Video games have come a long way since Wizardry!, and I have a lot of catching up to do. Thank you for describing so eloquently and thoroughly what sets each of these games and game types apart. It will be hard for me to decide which video games now to play, but your Top 10 List goes a long way to narrowing that down. I'm coming from the other direction -- OSR but interested in dabbling with video games with that flavor. This kind of analysis opens our eyes to what it is we've always loved, or even to wider modes of play we may have missed, and which systems promote more of that world-facing rather than player-placating POV.
